POLICE BEAT: Robbery, assault incident continues U crime trend

By SAM HARPER/Murphy News Service

Another robbery and assault early Monday morning continued a streak of high crime and violence around campus.

The incident mirrored many other campus crimes in terms of result,  but this incident stemmed from different circumstances than most.

According to a University of Minnesota Police Department report, the victim, who is not a U student, got into an argument with two people in a car near the intersection of 14th Avenue S.E. and 6th Street S.E.

During the argument the suspects got out of the car, assaulted and robbed the victim, the police report said, adding that the victim wasn’t seriously harmed.

UMPD wasn’t able to provide an incident report, as it was Minneapolis police whom responded to the incident.

In the past 5 days U police have responded to nine incidents involving theft, accounting for approximately one-fifth of all incident reports during that time.
