The University of Minnesota issued a crime alert today reporting an instance of sexual assault that occurred Saturday off-campus at about 2 a.m.
The assault victim was either coerced or willingly got into the suspect’s car near the intersection of 5th Street S.E. and 14th Avenue S.E. in the Marcy Holmes neighborhood.
The suspect then drove the victim to an unknown location and sexually assaulted her.
The victim describes the suspect as a male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium build. The suspect is between the ages of 25 and 28 years old and spoke with an accent.
The Minneapolis Police Department is currently investigating the crime. It may send an updated crime alert if additional information is obtained during the course of the investigation.
“We are not talking about it in any way, shape or form because it is an active investigation,” John Elder, a Minneapolis Police Department public information officer, said.
The case follows three other groping incidents just off campus last week. It’s unknown whether the cases are related.
The Minneapolis Police Department is asking anyone with information about Saturday’s sexual assault to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case MP 15-061317.
