Student bands will be taking the stage at the Whole Music Club in Coffman Student Union tonight at 7:30 pm.
The free concert will feature the bands Shiner, Take the Hint and Last Call. “The bands for this show all have kind of a punk rock, indie sound,” program board chair Kelsey Hart said.
The show is part of the BITS Variety Show series hosted by Student Union and Activities that features student talent in the dim, laid-back venue.
“It’s a good opportunity for students who have never performed on stage before to get some experience.” Hart said. “They go through the whole process from booking, to signing the contract, to planning their set, to load in and promoting the performance.”
In the past, BITS has held shows featuring electronic dance music, or EDM as it’s more popularly know, rap and acoustic sets.
The Whole also hosts local artists who are rising on the music scene, as well as hosting fledgling student music acts, . “The Whole is a student space, so we want to feature students, and artists that students want to see,” Hart said.
BITS doesn’t only feature singers, Hart said, but also has includes poetry and spoken word shows.
“The Whole is a safe space for students to perform their art,” Hart said.
Student artists who wish to be featured in a future BITS show can go to the Whole Music Club’s website, and fill out the submission form with their bio, performance sample, and information about their act.
